Who My Favourite Guitarist Influenced

Rory Gallagher is one of Ireland's gems who sadly passed away on the 14th June 1995. His musical legacy is far reaching from Jimi Hendrix to Ed Sheeran.

Hendrix was asked how it felt to be the greatest guitarist in the world. ''I don't know. Go ask Rory Gallagher" he replied.

As a big Taste fan, Brian May was influenced by Rory Gallagher into using a Vox AC30 Amplifier & Dallas treble booster. You can hear Rory's string bending style in Brian May's playing with 'Queen'.

'The Smiths' guitarist Johnny Marr is a big fan. Marr, like Joe Bonammasa, has played Rory's guitar. In the 'Play Guitar With.. Rory Gallagher Irish Tour '74..,' Joe Bonamassa wrote the forward stating that; ''The definition of blues rock for me is Rory Gallagher..''.  

On hearing about Rory's death, Slash from Guns & Roses mentioned how ''Rory was a really big influence on me.'' On BBC 1's 'One Show,' Slash talked about Rory & held the famous strat.

Rory continues to be an influnce years after his death. In a 2015 Rolling Stone interview, Ed Sheeran included 'A Million Miles Away' at number 9 on his playlist & said it was the first song he ever learnt. 

Rory Gallagher remains inspirational. Since 2002 the Rory Gallagher International Festival celebrating Rory's life & music has been held in Ballyshannon, Ireland during the last week of May. Rory Gallagher's songwriting prowess, captivating stagecraft & guitar wizardry will continue to enthral future generations of blues rock guitarists.
